Online Safeguarding Message for our parents

Online safety advice regarding viral online challenges:

A few of our parents have expressed concerns regarding websites that encourage people to take up inappropriate or dangerous challenges.

Advice has been sought from our local authority online safety team and they have recommended the following advice be sent to parents:

  • Ensure parents / carers know what their children can access online
  • Ensure children understand the importance of not giving personal information to anyone they do not know
  • Tell their children no-one has the right to make them do anything they do not want to do
  • Use parental controls to keep children safe

It is vital that as parents you have regular conversations with your children about their online activities and create an environment where your child is able to share any concerns they have about things they have seen online that has caused them upset.

Further advice on this and other online safety issues may be found on the following link: https://swgfl.org.uk/magazine/online-safety-alerts-think-before-you-scare

Please speak to our Safeguarding Officer Mrs Heyes if your have any queries or concerns about your child's safety online.
