As part of our first Talk 4 Writing unit this year we learnt the story 'Elmer' by David McKee. We came into school to find some patchwork footprints had been left on our classroom floor. We read the story, acted it out with our friends and sequenced it using pictures.

We created a story map which retold the story and began to learn to retell the story with actions. Once we knew the story we began to make changes to it to create a story of our own. RE created 'Tilly the Tiger' whilst RM choose 'Leo the Lion'.

As Elmer is a patchwork elephant we looked at patterns in maths and had a go at recreating repeating patterns using cubes, compare bears, pom poms and everyday objects. We even made repeating patterns using grapes!
