Character Education

At Greenbank, we value the spiritual and moral development of each child. We follow a character education programme based on research conducted by the Jubilee Centre at Birmingham University. The programme is based on 18 character virtues:

  • Self Control
  • Bravery
  • Love & Kindness
  • Fairness
  • Leadership & Teamwork
  • Service
  • Awe
  • Optimism & Joy
  • Gratitude
  • Creativity
  • Forgiveness
  • Humour
  • Judgment & Prudence
  • Honesty
  • Perseverance
  • Curiosity
  • Humility
  • Empathy & Perspective

Each virtue is taught alongside a quality text. Children share stories with staff and peers and draw out the virtue through discussion and roleplay. Through this approach, children begin to learn the importance of empathy, improve their oral literacy skills and develop their reasoning skills.

Children revisit the different virtues throughout their time at Greenbank, gaining a greater comprehension of each virtue as they mature.
